Quick answer
A Plan B mount is a taper-style suppressor mount. A Plan B compatible muzzle device goes on your barrel, a matching mount goes in the back of the suppressor, and the suppressor threads on and seats on a taper. One Horse’s Plan B compatible muzzle device is the Pike 3 Prong, a 3 prong flash hider sold in 1/2×28 and 5/8×24. The Ashe comes with the 1/2×28 Pike and the Ryn comes with the 5/8×24 Pike.

The basics
What is a Plan B mount?
A Plan B mount is a way to attach a suppressor to your rifle. It uses two parts that fit together.
- On the barrel: a Plan B compatible muzzle device, like a flash hider or brake.
- On the suppressor: a matching mount that threads into the back of the can.
The suppressor threads onto the muzzle device. As you snug it down, a taper in front of the threads pulls the two parts together and lines them up.
Where the name comes from
Plan B started as a suppressor mount from Q, a suppressor maker. Today many companies make muzzle devices and mounts built to fit the same pattern. That is what “Plan B compatible” means.
Parts from different makers are built to fit together. Still, check both makers’ compatibility notes before you mix brands.
3 prong mounts
How a 3 prong mount works
“3 prong” describes the front of a flash hider. It has three open prongs that help cut down visible muzzle flash. A 3 prong Plan B mount does two jobs. It works as a flash hider when you shoot without a suppressor. It is also the base your suppressor locks onto.
- The 3 prong mount threads onto your barrel’s muzzle threads.
- The matching mount threads into the back of the suppressor.
- The suppressor slides over the prongs and threads onto the mount.
- As it tightens, the taper seats the suppressor and centers it on the bore.
Your barrel’s threads decide which version you need. 5.56 barrels are usually 1/2×28. .300 BLK barrels are usually 5/8×24. Your muzzle device and suppressor mount have to match the barrel’s threads.
| Barrel thread | Pike 3 Prong | One Horse suppressor |
|---|---|---|
| 1/2×28 (usually 5.56) | 1/2×28 Pike 3 Prong (OH-PB01) | Ashe 5.56/.223, included |
| 5/8×24 (usually .300 BLK) | 5/8×24 Pike 3 Prong (OH-PB02) | Ryn .30 cal, included |

Why Plan B
Why pick a Plan B compatible mount?
Solid lockup
The taper gives a wide contact surface. It helps center the suppressor and hold it tight.
Cleaner threads
The taper seals in front of the threads. That helps keep carbon off them.
Simple parts
No latches and no springs. Just a muzzle device, a mount and the suppressor.
Plan B compatible devices come from many makers, in 1/2×28 and 5/8×24. You can put a Pike 3 Prong on each rifle you want to suppress, then move your suppressor between them. Match each Pike to that barrel’s threads, and only use calibers your suppressor is rated for.
One Horse Plan B mount
The One Horse Pike 3 Prong
The Pike 3 Prong is One Horse’s Plan B compatible mount. It is a 3 prong flash hider that threads onto your barrel. It comes in two thread sizes, so you can match it to your rifle.
Each One Horse suppressor already comes with one. The Ashe comes with the 1/2×28 Pike. The Ryn comes with the 5/8×24 Pike. Buy extra Pike 3 Prongs for your other rifles.

Install and care
Installing a Pike 3 Prong and your suppressor
These are the basic steps from the One Horse owner’s manual. Read the full manual before you install.
Install
- Unload. Remove the magazine, open the action and check the chamber.
- Clean the barrel threads and shoulder. The shoulder must be clean and square.
- Thread the Pike 3 Prong on by hand. Torque it to 20–30 ft-lbs with a 13/16″ wrench.
- Thread the mount into the back of the suppressor. Torque it to 35 ft-lbs with a 1-1/4″ wrench.
- Thread the suppressor onto the Pike by hand until it seats fully. Never force it.
- Check alignment before you fire. If you’re not sure, don’t fire. See a qualified gunsmith.
Tapered barrel shoulder? It is not supported unless an approved adapter or taper cap is installed first.
Care
- Let the suppressor cool before you touch it. A heat cover and heat-resistant gloves help.
- Keep the threads and mating surfaces on the mount and Pike clean.
- A small amount of high-temp anti-seize on approved threads helps prevent carbon lock. Keep it out of the bore.
- Don’t use ultrasonic or soak cleaning or harsh solvents unless the method is confirmed safe for titanium and Cerakote.
- Check that the suppressor stays tight while you shoot. Stop if it loosens or sounds wrong.
Build it right
Setting up your AR-15 for a suppressor
A suppressor changes how your AR-15 runs. Cans add back pressure. A heavier buffer is a good place to start on a suppressed rifle. Tune from there.
- One Horse buffers: H1, H2 and H3 weights.
- AR-15 barrels: check the muzzle thread before you buy a Pike.
- Complete uppers: BCG and charging handle included.

FAQ
Plan B mount questions, answered
What is a Plan B mount?
A Plan B mount is a taper-style way to attach a suppressor. A Plan B compatible muzzle device threads onto your barrel. A matching mount threads into the back of the suppressor. The suppressor then threads onto the muzzle device and seats on a taper in front of the threads.
What does Plan B compatible mean?
It means a part is made to fit the Plan B pattern, so it can work with other Plan B compatible parts. Many companies make Plan B compatible muzzle devices and mounts. Before you mix brands, check both makers’ compatibility notes.
Is a 3 prong mount the same as a Plan B mount?
Not always. “3 prong” describes the shape of a flash hider: three open prongs at the front. “Plan B” describes how the suppressor attaches. The One Horse Pike 3 Prong is both: a 3 prong flash hider made as a Plan B compatible mount.
Which thread pitch do I need?
Match your barrel’s muzzle threads. 5.56 barrels are usually 1/2×28 and .300 BLK barrels are usually 5/8×24, but check your barrel before you buy. The Pike 3 Prong comes in 1/2×28 and 5/8×24.
