Forced Reset Technology Explained
What Forced Reset Technology is, how it works in an AR-15, and what your rifle needs to run it.
Quick answer
Forced Reset Technology uses the bolt carrier’s rearward travel to push the trigger back to its reset point after each shot. The shooter still pulls the trigger for every shot. Forced Reset Technology runs best in a rifle set up for it, with the right buffer, gas system, bolt carrier group and a low shelf lower. That is what Forced Reset Ready™ means.
The basics
How Forced Reset Technology works
In a standard AR-15, you release the trigger to let it reset after each shot. With Forced Reset Technology, the bolt carrier moving rearward mechanically pushes the trigger forward to reset. You still pull the trigger for every shot.
Because the reset depends on the bolt carrier, the whole rifle matters, not just one part: bolt carrier group, buffer weight, buffer spring, gas system and ammunition all affect how well a forced reset build runs. A rifle that is tuned as a system runs more consistently than one assembled from parts that were never set up together.

FAQ
Common Forced Reset Technology questions
What is Forced Reset Technology?
Forced Reset Technology is a design that uses the bolt carrier’s rearward travel to mechanically reset the trigger after each shot. The shooter still pulls the trigger for every shot.
How does Forced Reset Technology work on an AR-15?
When the rifle fires, the bolt carrier moves rearward and pushes the trigger forward to its reset point. Because the reset depends on the bolt carrier, the whole rifle, including the bolt carrier group, buffer, spring, gas system and ammo, affects how well it runs.
What does Forced Reset Ready mean?
A One Horse AR-15 built and tuned for Forced Reset Technology, with the gas system, H2 buffer and FRR components installed. No forced reset device is included, so you add your own.
Do I need a low shelf lower for Forced Reset Technology?
Many forced reset devices need one. Both One Horse lowers are low shelf. Always check the device maker’s compatibility list.
What buffer should I use for a forced reset build?
Many builds start with an H2 buffer, and FRR HD rifles ship with one installed. The right weight depends on your gas system and ammo.
Can I buy a rifle with Forced Reset Technology already installed?
Yes. One Horse Express rifles and pistols ship with the Atrius Forced Reset Selector factory-installed, timed and test-fired.
