Anyone can buy a selector, fire control group, gas system, bolt carrier, buffer and spring. Getting those parts to work together—with the correct receiver geometry, trigger profile, gas delivery, timing and bolt speed—is where the real work begins.
That work takes time. When the first combination is wrong, it costs money too.
That is why One Horse did not treat the Atrius FRS as another accessory to install in an existing firearm.
We built the One Horse Express around it.
The One Horse Express is a factory-tuned FRS rifle with the selector, fire control group, gas system, bolt carrier group and tuned buffer/spring system selected to function as one complete operating system.
Every Express firearm is fitted, timed, function-tested and live-fire validated before leaving our facility in Brownstown, Indiana.
That means the end user does not have to purchase multiple components, test different combinations or spend valuable range time troubleshooting an FRS installation.

The Atrius Forced Reset Selector, or FRS, replaces the traditional safety selector in a compatible AR-pattern firearm. It does not replace the entire trigger or fire control group.
The FRS provides three clearly defined selector positions:
In the ACCELERATED position, the FRS works with the firearm’s cycling action. As the bolt carrier moves through its cycle, the selector’s cam lever mechanically drives the trigger forward into reset.
This creates a faster, more positive reset that allows the shooter to make quicker follow-up shots while retaining familiar AR-pattern controls.
The selector is the heart of the system—but it cannot do the job alone.
Atrius designed the FRS as a drop-in solution for compatible AR-pattern firearms. Compatibility still matters.

There is also tolerance stacking to consider. Small dimensional differences between receivers, triggers, selectors, carriers and other components can add up and affect fit, timing and function.
Then there is the operating system itself.
Barrel length changes timing. Gas-system length changes timing. Gas-port size, ammunition, carrier mass and buffer/spring setup all influence how hard and how fast the action cycles.
The Atrius FRS depends on that cycle to reset correctly. If the firearm is under-gassed, over-gassed, moving too fast or built from components that do not properly interface, the end user can be left diagnosing problems instead of enjoying the firearm.
“Drop-in” describes how the selector is installed.
It does not mean every combination of parts is already balanced as a complete system.

That is the difference between installing a part and engineering a firearm around it.
The original 16-inch One Horse Express became the first factory-built production rifle equipped with the Atrius Forced Reset Selector.
The rifle uses a 4150 CrMoV Enhanced SOCOM Profile barrel with a 1:8 twist and mid-length gas system.
The Enhanced SOCOM Profile is thicker at the base near the chamber. That additional material increases rigidity and thermal mass while keeping the rifle’s balance closer to the shooter. The design improves control and helps mitigate muzzle rise during faster strings of fire.

The result is a full-size 5.56 platform built around practical control, consistent cycling and the operating requirements of the Atrius FRS.
The One Horse Express Pistol lineup carries the same factory-tuned approach into a more compact 5.56 platform.
Both 10.5-inch Express Pistols use a carbine-length gas system with a tuned buffer/spring system matched to the shorter operating cycle.

Each pistol is assembled, fitted, timed and tested as a complete FRS-equipped firearm.
The Express Series also includes dedicated .22 LR rifle and pistol platforms.
Unlike a basic conversion operating through a centerfire barrel, the Express 22 Rifle and Express 22 Pistol use dedicated rimfire operating systems. A rimfire-specific interface allows the dedicated bolt to function with the three-position Atrius FRS.

Building and tuning your own FRS-equipped AR-15 can require hours of research before the first component is ordered.
Is the lower receiver compatible? Is there enough internal clearance? Will the fire control group interface correctly? Is the bolt carrier full profile? Which buffer and spring combination should you use? Is the gas system delivering enough energy without driving the carrier too hard?
Then comes installation, function checks and live-fire testing.
If the system does not run correctly, the troubleshooting process begins—one component and one variable at a time.
With the One Horse Express, that work has already been completed at the factory.
The end user does not have to build a compatibility chart, chase down a timing issue or spend multiple range trips swapping components.

Not exactly. FRT (forced reset technology) describes the broader operating concept. The component installed in the One Horse Express is the Atrius Forced Reset Selector, or FRS. It replaces the firearm’s selector rather than replacing the entire fire control group.
In the ACCELERATED position, the FRS works with the cycling bolt carrier to mechanically drive the trigger forward into reset. The selector, fire control group, gas system, bolt carrier group and tuned buffer/spring system must work together for consistent function.
The One Horse Express is tuned, tested and ready to run in its factory configuration. The Atrius FRS and the components affecting its operation are fitted and tested before the firearm leaves One Horse.
Major changes to the gas system, bolt carrier group, fire control group, buffer/spring system or suppressor configuration may affect cycling and should be evaluated separately.
A factory-tuned FRS rifle removes the compatibility research and trial-and-error process commonly associated with building a forced reset system from separate components. It can save the customer time, ammunition, replacement parts and potential gunsmith fees.
