The One Horse Express 22 is a complete, dedicated .22 LR AR-style firearm, sold as a 16.1-inch rifle or a 12.1-inch pistol. Unlike a conversion kit, its barrel, chamber and bolt are built for .22 Long Rifle from the start. Every Express 22 ships with the Atrius Forced Reset Selector (Safe, Semi and Super-Semi) installed, tuned and test fired by One Horse, so there is nothing for you to tune.

The cartridge
.22 LR, 22 LR and 22 Long Rifle are all names for the same rimfire cartridge. It has introduced generations of Americans to shooting. It is affordable, easy to find and easy to handle, which makes it one of the best cartridges for building real confidence.
You will also see people search for “22 caliber.” That term covers a broader family of cartridges. The Express 22 is chambered for .22 Long Rifle.
Why a dedicated .22 LR
A .22 LR conversion kit swaps out the bolt carrier group so you can fire rimfire ammo through an existing 5.56 or .223 rifle. It works, but the rifle is still built around a different cartridge. You may also have to swap parts back and forth, check compatibility and hunt for the ammo that works with that combination.
The Express 22 skips all of that. You grab it, load it and run it.

The Express 22 is not just a .22 LR upper. One Horse pairs the dedicated upper with a complete One Horse lower, the Atrius FRS and every supporting part it needs to work as one system.
The trip system and anti-bounce weight are installed at the factory. The upper and lower are configured and tested together, so you never have to source a lower, figure out selector compatibility or spend your first range day making adjustments.

The Express 22 lower works with One Horse Express uppers. You are not buying a one-purpose upper. You are getting a complete firearm and a lower you can use across compatible Express configurations.
Forced reset, done right
At the center of the Express 22 lower is the Atrius Development Group Forced Reset Selector, or FRS. It has three positions:
A single-side Atrius FRS comes standard. An ambidextrous Atrius FRS is available as an installed upgrade when you order.
Getting a forced reset to run well on a .22 LR depends on the bolt, the ammo and the weight of the parts. A rimfire-specific interface lets the dedicated bolt work with the Atrius FRS, and One Horse sets up the lower, upper and operating parts together before the firearm reaches you.

Feed it right
Rimfire ammo can vary a lot between brands, product lines and even individual lots. Bullet weight and consistency can affect how any semi-auto .22 LR runs.
The Express 22 arrives Built To Run™, with no owner tuning. Even so, not every brand or bulk pack of .22 LR will perform the same.
In One Horse testing, CCI 40-grain Mini-Mag gave the best overall performance in the Express 22. It is our recommended starting point.
Trying a new load? Start in Semi and make sure it runs dependably before you switch to Super-Semi.
Care
.22 LR leaves more residue than many centerfire cartridges. Powder, bullet lube and rimfire debris build up around the chamber, bolt face, extractor and moving parts. Regular cleaning keeps your Express 22 running dependably, especially after a long range day.
Separate the upper and lower with the takedown pins. Remove the charging handle and bolt assembly following the current One Horse owner instructions. Then:
Reinstall the bolt and charging handle in reverse order, make sure they are fully seated and move freely, then do a function check before you shoot.
Leave the factory-installed trip and anti-bounce parts as they are. They are part of the tuned system. Don’t take apart the bolt internals unless you are following current One Horse service instructions. If anything looks damaged, worn or out of place, stop and contact One Horse before firing.
