Atrius FRS Forced Reset Selector for AR-15

Searching for a forced reset selector, the Atrius FRS, or Super-Semi on an AR-15? Every One Horse Express ships with the Atrius Forced Reset Selector (SAFE, SEMI, Super-Semi) fit, timed and tested at our factory in Brownstown, Indiana. No drop-in gamble.

Quick answer

Key takeaways

  • Selector, not trigger. The Atrius FRS replaces the safety selector: SAFE, SEMI and Super-Semi.
  • FRT vs FRS: a forced reset trigger replaces the trigger; the FRS works with a compatible fire control group.
  • It’s a system. Lower, carrier, gas and buffer all have to work together.
  • Skip the tuning: every Express ships with the Atrius FRS installed, tuned and tested.
  • Building your own? One Horse lowers are low shelf lowers that accepts multiple FRS and FRT style devices.

The short answer

What is a forced reset selector?

A forced reset selector replaces the safety selector in a compatible AR-pattern firearm. It does not replace the whole trigger or fire control group. The one we install is the Atrius Development Group Forced Reset Selector (FRS).

It has three positions: SAFE, SEMI and Super-Semi. Super-Semi is the forced reset position. As the bolt carrier cycles, the selector returns the trigger to its ready position after each shot.

Super safety?

“Super safety” is a common shopper term for a selector-style part that adds a forced reset position to an AR-15. The Atrius FRS is a forced reset selector in that category.

FRT vs FRS

Forced reset trigger vs forced reset selector

Shoppers use “forced reset trigger” and “FRT” for the whole category. Here’s how a trigger-style device and the Atrius selector differ.

Buyer question

Is a forced reset selector plug and play?

Atrius designed the FRS as a drop-in for compatible AR-pattern firearms. But “drop-in” describes how the selector installs. It doesn’t mean every mix of parts is already balanced. A forced reset device depends on the whole rifle working as one system:

The gun around it

  • Lower receiver geometry and trigger-pocket clearance
  • A compatible fire control group
  • A full-profile bolt carrier group

The timing

  • Proper gas delivery
  • A tuned buffer and spring system
  • Ammo that cycles the action correctly

Reliability

Forced reset problems and how they start

Tolerance stacking

  • Small differences between receivers, triggers, selectors and carriers add up and affect fit, timing and function

Gas and timing

  • Barrel length, gas-system length, gas-port size and ammo all change timing
  • Under-gassed or over-gassed guns can fail to reset correctly

Buffer, spring, carrier

  • Carrier mass and the buffer and spring setup change how the action cycles, which forced reset depends on

On a DIY build, that means troubleshooting one part at a time: another buffer, another spring, a different fire control group, a compatible bolt carrier, even another lower receiver. Add the ammo burned diagnosing it and any gunsmith fees. On an Express, that tuning work is already done.

Questions

Forced reset FAQ

What is a forced reset selector?

A forced reset selector replaces the AR-15 safety selector instead of the whole trigger. The Atrius Development Group Forced Reset Selector (FRS) has three positions: SAFE, SEMI and Super-Semi, the forced reset position.

What is the difference between a forced reset trigger and a forced reset selector?

A forced reset trigger (FRT) is a trigger-style device that goes in the fire control group. The Atrius FRS is a selector: it replaces the safety selector and works with a compatible fire control group. Both are forced reset designs.

Is the Atrius FRS an FRT?

No. The Atrius FRS is a selector, not a forced reset trigger (FRT). It replaces the safety selector and works with a compatible fire control group.

What does Super-Semi mean?

Super-Semi is the forced reset position on the Atrius FRS. As the bolt carrier cycles, the selector returns the trigger to its ready position after each shot. SEMI works like a regular AR-15.

Is the Atrius FRS a super safety?

“Super safety” is a common shopper term for a selector-style part that adds a forced reset position to an AR-15. The Atrius FRS is a forced reset selector in that category.

Is the Atrius FRS plug and play?

It’s designed as a drop-in for compatible AR-pattern firearms, but drop-in describes the install, not the tuning. An Express skips the guesswork because the forced reset tuning is done before it ships.

What are common forced reset problems?

Most issues trace back to tolerance stacking, an under- or over-gassed system, a carrier that isn’t full profile, or a buffer and spring that doesn’t match the gun. Forced reset relies on the action cycling correctly.

Which lower do I need for an FRS or FRT build?

One that has room for it. The One Horse mil-spec stripped lower is a low shelf lower that accepts multiple FRS and FRT style devices. The complete lower is too. See AR-15 lowers.

Which One Horse guns come with the Atrius FRS?

Every One Horse Express ships with the Atrius FRS factory-installed, tuned and tested in Brownstown, Indiana: 16″ 5.56/.223 rifles, 10.5″ 5.56/.223 pistols, and dedicated .22 LR models.

How do I buy an Express?

Pick your model on the Express page, buy online and we ship to your FFL dealer for transfer. Rifles 18+ (21 where required), pistols 21+.

Is the Atrius FRS legal where I live?

Laws vary by state and city and can change. It is the buyer’s responsibility to know and follow federal, state and local laws where they live and where they shoot, including rules on triggers and selectors. Placing an order does not mean an item is legal where you live. This page is product information, not legal advice.
